Local airlines set for name changes after Velvet Sky’s porn surprise

DURBAN. South Africa’s recently launched budget airline, Velvet Sky, says it will not change its name despite customers entering the airline’s details into search engines and being taken to websites showing pictures of scantily clad ladies. Airline spokesperson Miles Hyeclub said, “We always knew that launching a new airline would be hard.”

“But yes, it was kind of bad planning,” he said, before adding that the Durban-based carrier was now looking to use the situation to its advantage.

Asked how he intended to do that, Hyeclub said they were considering hiring Ukranian hostesses – the kind who are equally at home when offering chicken or beef… or a trip to a cubicle at the back of the plane to experience a little turbulence.

“Virgin have seats that recline all the way,” said Hyeclub. “We can’t beat them in that department but there will be other features on our flights which are prepared to go all the way.”

Asked if there was an official position on the name of the new airline, a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority Wimpie Dutch-Rudder replied, “Yes, reverse cowgirl.”

He added that as long as Velvet Sky were able to operate safely and to the satisfaction of their customers, they could call themselves whatever they wanted.

“In short,” said Dutch-Rudder, “As long as Velvet Sky are able to stay up long enough and arrive at their destination at the same time as their passengers – or even a little after, we will not see the need to get involved.

“Although we will be watching them closely,” he added. “You know how it is – just for research purposes.”

Meanwhile as travellers flock to book with Velvet Sky in the hope that a lap dance can make up for the lack of leg room and beverages, other airlines are also rumoured to be looking at changing their names.

Kulula are reportedly set to rebrand themselves as Kahuna while sources close to 1Time suggest they will come out strong in new pink livery as 1stTime.

SAA are set to go for XXX while BA are said to be looking into switching the ‘A’ in their name to a ‘J’ in an attempt to get to the head of the market.
